Generational wealth planning is more than a 401(k).

A retirement account funds your future. A generational plan funds the futures you’ll never see.

Real generational planning weaves together several threads:

• Protection — life insurance that replaces income and creates a legacy
• Instruction — beneficiaries, a will, and healthcare directives in writing
• Transfer — a thoughtful plan for how assets pass to the next generation
• Education — teaching your children the wisdom behind the wealth

The 401(k) is one tool. A legacy is a whole toolbox - and a few good conversations.

What’s one piece of this you’ve been meaning to put in place?

Father’s Day is around the corner, and I keep thinking about this:

The greatest inheritance isn’t money. It’s the way a father handles money.

The dad who tithed faithfully even when it was tight. The father who showed his kids what saving looked like. The grandfather who modeled generosity. The stepdad who taught patience over impulse.

Those lessons compound for generations - long after the bank account is spent.

Drop a in the comments to honor a father figure who shaped how you think about money today.

“The legacy you leave is not in your bank account. It’s in the values you pass down.”

Money is a tool. Values are the blueprint. When we get those two in the right order, generosity flows, stewardship becomes second nature, and our children inherit something far richer than dollars.

What does “wealth” actually mean?

Ask ten people and you’ll get ten answers. For some, wealth is freedom: the ability to choose how they spend their time.

For others, it’s security: knowing the mortgage is covered, the kids’ education is funded, and an unexpected expense won’t unravel the plan.

For others still, it’s legacy: leaving behind something - financial, spiritual, relational - that outlives them.

As a Behavioral Financial Advisor, my work begins with that question. Because a plan built on someone else’s definition of wealth will never quite feel like yours.

So, I’ll ask you the same thing I ask my clients: in one sentence - what does wealth mean to you?

Half the year is almost behind us. Before the calendar flips, here are five questions worth sitting with:

1. Am I on track to hit my retirement contributions for the year?
2. Has anything changed in my life that should change my plan?
3. Are my beneficiaries correct?
4. Do I have enough emergency cash for an actual emergency?
5. If I had to walk away from work tomorrow, what would I wish I had done?

If any of these made you pause — that's not a problem. That's a starting point.

Congratulations to the Class of 2026. If you're stepping into the next level with NIL income already in hand, this summer is the most important financial summer of your life.

What I'd build with you:

▪️ A simple tax-savings system (one account, automated)
▪️ A starter investment plan (Roth IRA + brokerage)
▪️ A spending framework you can actually live with
▪️ A boundary script for friends and family who'll ask

This isn't about getting rich. It's about not getting wrecked.

Memorial Day is a day of remembrance and a quiet reminder that nothing about the future is guaranteed.

For the families I work with, that truth shapes the work:
• Beneficiaries kept current
• Insurance sized to the life it actually has to protect
• A plan written down so loved ones aren't left guessing

The greatest tribute we can offer those who served is to live — and plan — with the same intentionality they did.

Thank you to those who gave all. And to the families still carrying that weight: I see you.

Young athletes are earning more than ever — and most weren't taught what to do when the first deposit hits.

Here's the order I walk every NIL athlete through:

1. Set aside taxes (yes, you owe them — usually 25–30%)
2. Build a one-month emergency cushion
3. Open a brokerage account before you upgrade your lifestyle
4. Then — and only then — celebrate

The athletes who build wealth aren't the ones who earn the most. They're the ones who keep the most.

Frequent moves. Career interruptions. Long deployments. A military spouse's financial life rarely follows a straight line — and that's exactly why a thoughtful plan matters more, not less.

If you're a military spouse, here are three things worth reviewing this month:
• Your retirement portability across moves and jobs
• Life insurance coverage beyond SGLI
• A long-term savings strategy that survives PCS season

You hold so much together. Let's make sure your financial future is part of what stays steady.
