Another reason why it is crucial to sign up for supplemental coverage with someone that specializes in Medicare!!

I just got off the phone with a new client that realized she never signed up for Part D when she started Medicare back in 2009.

The Part D penalty is 1% of the average premium ($33.37 for 2022) for every month you don't have creditable coverage.

She was without coverage for 168 months. If she wants drug coverage, her penalty would be $55/mo.

The cost of the Part D late enrollment penalty, which is determined based on how long you are without creditable prescription drug coverage
