🚗 What happens when the person who hits YOU doesn’t have enough insurance?
Here’s something I think more people need to understand about auto insurance.
In Georgia, the state minimum for property damage liability is ONLY $25,000.
Now think about how many vehicles on the road today cost $50,000, $60,000, even $80,000+.
Let’s say you’re driving a newer Tahoe worth around $80,000 and someone rear ends you. They’re completely at fault, but they only carry Georgia state minimum coverage.
Their insurance company only has $25,000 available for your vehicle damage.
What happens if your vehicle has $40,000 worth of damage? Or worse, it’s totaled?
That’s where your own insurance coverage can become extremely important, even though you did absolutely nothing wrong.
Depending on your policy, coverages like collision and uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage may come into play. Now you’re dealing with multiple claims, insurance companies, deductibles and potentially waiting for everything to get sorted out.
This is why I tell my clients all the time: insurance isn’t just about having enough coverage for the damage YOU may cause. It’s also about protecting yourself from everyone else on the road.
State minimum doesn’t mean properly protected.
FULL COVERAGE DOES NOT MEAN PROPERLY PROTECTED!
When we shop your insurance, we’re looking at the price, but we’re also looking at what those coverages actually do for you when something goes wrong.
If you haven’t looked at your auto coverage in a while, give me a call. I’m happy to go over it with you. 🚗
