Heat today and storms tomorrow (or Friday). Prepare and be careful.

10AM Wednesday Bertha Update:
A new track forecast just dropped from the National Hurricane Center, and it shows a minimal tropical storm passing somewhere near Houston and Galveston tomorrow evening.

As I mentioned in my previous post, this will be no worse than anything we experienced last month during Tropical Storm Arthur when winds gusted above 60 mph along the coast. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will pass through during the afternoon and evening, and there will be a little wind and some minor coastal flooding possible along the coast. For most of us it will be business as usual and not see much different from a typical summer day with a chance for rain.

Remember that we do have an ABC13 Weather Watch today due to the extreme heat (record high of 104° in Houston, heat index as high as 115°) and the strong thunderstorms that will develop in the late afternoon and early evening. One or two of those storms could produce severe wind gusts over 60 mph and knock out the power in isolated spots.

We'll keep an eye on the Gulf, thermometer, and 13 Alert Radar for you today, and by 1PM we'll have our next update on Bertha from the National Hurricane Center, which I'll stream live at abc13.com/live.
