To our clients who have been impacted—or may be impacted—by the wildfires:
First and foremost, we hope you and your family are safe. If you have been affected by the fires, here are a few important coverage reminders:
🏠 Additional Living Expenses (ALE)
If you are under a mandatory evacuation order, your policy’s Civil Authority coverage may help pay for temporary housing and additional food expenses.
* Your policy deductible applies.
* Please go to a hotel or other safe accommodations if necessary.
* Save all receipts for lodging, meals, and other eligible expenses incurred after the evacuation.
* This coverage is intended for actual covered losses and expenses—not simply the inconvenience of being evacuated.
🥩 Food Spoilage
If you lose power and food spoils:
* Coverage is available up to $500 per household.
* Your deductible applies.
* If your home also sustains fire damage that causes the food loss, this special $500 limit may not apply.
* You do not need to list every individual food item. A reasonable estimate grouped into categories (such as meat, frozen foods, dairy, and produce) is sufficient. If the amount claimed appears unusually high, additional information may be requested.
🌫️ Smoke Damage
If your home has smoke damage:
* We will make every effort to inspect the property.
* Claims are typically adjusted based on the home’s square footage and the overall severity of the smoke damage.
* If you have already contacted a restoration contractor, we will work directly with them, just as we do with other covered property claims.
If you have any questions or need to report a claim, please don’t hesitate to contact our office. We’re here to help you through this.
