The AI tools in your fleet aren't the problem. The missing documentation is.

Underwriters are flagging three things right now when they see AI-equipped fleets: no written usage policy, alerts with no follow-up records, drivers permitted to override systems without a review process.

Any one of those raises a flag. All three at once? That's a different conversation entirely at renewal time.

The road changed. Your policy didn't.

New lanes. Different freight. Driver count up, then down. Seasonal routes that didn't exist two years ago.

Your operation adapted. Most policies don't.

A coverage review isn't about switching carriers. It's about knowing whether what you have still fits what you're actually doing. A lot of the time, it doesn't.

We do straight-talk reviews. You find out exactly where you stand.

Hard braking costs you three times.

Once at the pump. Once in the shop. Once at renewal.

A loaded truck that's constantly braking hard uses more fuel, burns through brakes faster, and builds the kind of loss pattern that gets noticed when your policy comes up for review.

Steady throttle. Anticipate the stop. Leave space. It sounds simple because it is. The hard part is getting your drivers to actually do it consistently.
The fleet owners who nail this see it in three places: their fuel receipts, their maintenance schedule, and their renewal numbers.

If you haven't looked at your coverage in a while, now's a good time.

The road doesn't care about your schedule.

We want to hear it: what's the longest day you've ever had on the road?

Breakdown three states from home. Load that kept getting pushed. Weather that turned a 10-hour run into something you don't talk about at dinner. Whatever it was — we want to know.

Drop it in the comments. These are the stories worth telling.

A brand-new CDL driver walks into your office next year.

Clean record. ELDT certificate. Ready to work.

You hire him.

Six months later, your renewal comes back up 22 percent.
No wrecks. No freight changes. Nothing obvious.

Just this: starting July 1st, 2026, Pell Grants can be used for CDL training. That means a surge of first-year drivers entering the market fast. And carriers don't price risk based on your recruiting wins. They price it based on your driver experience profile.

If that profile skews greener, the number goes up. Even if your operation runs clean.
We broke down the full picture in our latest video: what the Pell Grant change actually means for fleets, why more drivers in the market can raise your renewal, and the five things smart fleets are doing right now.

Year one, a 4-hour delay felt like a catastrophe. Year ten, it's just Tuesday with overtime.

Experience doesn't make the problems smaller. It makes you harder to shake.

Three things that actually change after you've been running long enough:
👉 Delays stop feeling personal. You stop fighting the clock and start working the phone. Reroute, rebook, communicate. It's logistics, not a verdict on your career.
👉 Stress gets a shorter leash. New operators carry every bad day home. Veterans learn to leave it at the truck stop. Not because it doesn't matter — because it has to.
👉 Decisions get faster and cheaper. The operator who's seen a denied claim, a gap in cargo coverage, or a policy that didn't cover a leased trailer doesn't make those mistakes twice. Knowledge has a cost. Experience means you already paid it.

If your operation has outgrown the policy you started with, that's worth checking. We do coverage reviews at no cost: valleytruckinginsurance.com

Summer melts your tires. Winter freezes your fuel. Which one actually costs you more?

Both have a real case. Summer: tire blowouts on superheated asphalt, re**er units straining in the heat, cargo losses when something fails at 95 degrees. Winter: black ice, fuel gelling, chains laws, and jackknife risk on every grade with a full load.

Drivers have strong opinions on this. What's yours?

Drop it in the comments. And if either season has you thinking about whether your coverage actually holds up when it counts, that's a conversation we're happy to have.

Your AI safety system isn't neutral. It's either protecting you or building a case against you.

Investigators ask 4 questions after every AI-involved crash. Most fleets don't have a clean answer to #4: who controlled the AI settings?

If your fleet sets the thresholds, manages the alerts, and allows overrides without documentation, you own part of the outcome. That's not a worst-case scenario. That's how liability actually gets decided.

Here's what quietly goes wrong:

Alerts are enabled. Nobody reviews them.
Dashcam footage exists. Nobody audits it.
Safety reports get generated. Nothing changes.
Overrides are allowed. Nothing is logged.

From a legal standpoint, that's not a neutral record. That's a paper trail of ignored warnings.

Texas, California, or Florida?

One of them has more interstate highway miles than the other two combined. Drop your guess in the comments.
..

It's Texas. 3,233 miles of interstate. More than any other state.

If your fleet runs those corridors, or cuts through any multi-state route on a regular basis, the miles aren't the problem. The problem is finding out your policy has a gap somewhere between state lines.

That happens more than it should.

If you want someone to actually look at what you have, that's what we do.

Your AI system flagged a driver three times before the crash.

Nobody reviewed it. Nobody followed up. Nobody documented anything.
Now it's in discovery.

Installing AI safety tech doesn't shift liability away from your fleet. In a lot of cases, it does the opposite. If the system flagged a problem and nothing changed, plaintiffs will argue you knew the risk and accepted it.

AI creates memory. Memory creates responsibility.

This video breaks down how liability actually gets assigned when software had a say, where the documentation gaps are that most fleets don't see coming, and what you can do right now before a claim puts it all in front of a jury.
