This is such an inspirational story - this is a first year (grass roots) wrestling program that started with nothing - no coach(s), no money, no wrestlers. They had tremendous first year success, and are building the foundation for a future program that will have many years of success in the future! I’m glad that Wheatland Bank could be a small piece of the story!
LAKESIDE WRESTLING TEAM THANKS GENEROUS DONORS FOR INAUGURAL SEASON
Lakeside middle school and high school wrestling teams, having just concluded their inaugural seasons and wish to extend a heartfelt thank you to the generous donors who have supported their programs this school year. Donations were raised to fund essential equipment such as wrestling mats, uniforms, and team headgear, ensuring that the team could compete safely and effectively. The team is immensely grateful for the contributions made by private parties solicited primarily by coach Jim Giulio and the Plummer-Worley School District administration. They have been spearheading fund-raising efforts for the past 9 months by appealing to colleagues and fans of the sport of wrestling throughout the area. As stated by one administrator, we took contributions from anyone “breathing” and “slightly interested in wrestling” when they gave to the Plummer-Worley School District. These donations drastically reduced the costs of implementation to the district, and we are thankful for their efforts.
Both the Lakeside Middle School wrestling team and the Lakeside High School wrestling team are immensely grateful for the personal contributions made by individuals for all of the equipment, but the biggest is yet to come. All wrestling teams are extremely excited about the delivery of a brand-new wrestling mat coming later this spring bearing the Lakeside Knights markings. When it arrives, we’ll post pictures here on Facebook of the new arrival. This mat will allow teams to host their own events starting next year.
At this time, the Lakeside Wrestling Team would like to specifically thank the following parties for their generous donation:
• Vince & Michelle Hughes
• Clarks Builders LLC
• Shaun McChesney
• Monty Giulio
• Dave Swift
• Wheatland Bank
• Brandon Quigley
• Greg Washington
• Sal Piazza
• Kevin Cloud
• One individual wishing to remain anonymous.
The team is also incredibly thankful and thrilled that North Idaho College donated one of their wrestling mats so teams could practice throughout their respective seasons. Thank you, Coach Derek Booth, and the NIC Cardinals.
Without these contributions, wrestling was not an option for the schools this year. We look forward to the 2024-25 season. Thank you to these contributors, fans and supporters of the program.
