April was a busy month for financial literacy education.
We had our very own Dan Kuboushek and Jessica Denk present to the 7th graders at Saint Teresa of Calcutta in Ossian on April 9th about the importance of saving for their future, needs vs. wants, and saving vs. lending.
Dan Kuboushek also participated in an event, along with other local banks and businesses, at the Ossian Community Center on April 23rd for a Teach Children to Save financial literacy field trip for the 5th graders from South Winneshiek and Saint Teresa of Calcutta. Each student was given a paycheck, which they "cashed" at the bank, then they had to visit other vendor tables to pay expenses. The end goal was to learn about budgeting in the hopes they had some money left over.
Lastly, we co-sponsored a community event with 5 other local banks on April 29th at the Waucoma Event Center to educate the public about fraud prevention. It was a very successful event with over 230 people in attendance. Heather Kriener from Iowa Fraud Fighters did a presentation about current fraud tactics and how to protect yourself from becoming a victim of fraud.
Thank you to everyone that contributed to these events and helped make April a very educational month for everyone.
