OFFICE UPDATE - Our office is working remote today due to the weather. We may have only 1 person answering the phones, 2 max. More than half of my team is at home with no power, internet, and barely any service.
Please see the information below. We are here to assist you and Stay safe!
**Insurance Tips to Help You Stay Protected**
1. **Take your time**: Avoid signing contracts or paying anyone before you're certain of the work being done.
2. **Tarp your roof**: Protect your home by covering any damaged areas to prevent further issues.
3. **Patience is key**: Repairs and claims processing may take several weeks—be prepared for delays.
4. **Consider before filing**: For smaller damages, ensure it makes sense to file based on your deductible and the cost of repairs.
5. **Tree damage**: Regardless of where the tree came from, the insurance of the property it lands on handles the claim. If a tree falls on your land but doesn't damage a structure or vehicle, it's typically not covered by insurance.
6. **Auto accidents**: If driving through a puddle causes damage, it could be considered an at-fault accident under collision coverage.
7. **Comprehensive coverage**: Damage from falling trees or rising water is covered under your comprehensive auto policy.
8. **Protect your valuables**: As contractors work in your home, be sure to secure anything valuable.
9. **Choose wisely**: When hiring a contractor, get at least three estimates and ensure they're reputable. Insurance covers the cost, but quality and timing are in the contractor’s hands, so make sure warranties are in place.
10. **Patience pays off**: Auto claims may take 30-90 days, and homeowner claims could take 3-6 months, especially when many people are affected.
11. **Prevent further damage**: Preserve your home by tarping your roof, as it may take up to two weeks to get an adjuster out.
12. **If you have flood insurance**: Call 800-638-6620 for flood-related claims. Water that rises into your home from the ground up is considered flood damage and you must have flood insurance to cover this loss.
