September is the official month that Michigan Apple Fest hosted in Sparta (just 10 minutes north of Grand Rapids)! It is a family oriented event celebrating the harvest of fresh fruits and vegetables grown on “the Ridge” near Sparta, Michigan, the heart of Apple country. Kids Carnival, hands on art for kids, kiddie sling shot contest, live street entertainment, a Apple Sling Shot Contest & much m

ore make up this day long celebration. The main events start at 10 am and go through early evening in the street festival atmosphere in downtown Sparta, the gateway to some of the best farmer’s markets in the state located on “The Ridge!”!

We are 🍎 country now , but ....Once upon a time, peaches were the top crop at Sparta. From picking to packing to transporting by wagon to the freight depot and packing the bushels into railroad cars, it was a massive undertaking involving many.
