There seems to be confusion about the new tax rules. Social Security is still taxed. What is new is the senior deduction for those sixty- five and over.
The new deduction is $6,000 per person, $12,000 for a married couple. This does not reduce taxable Social Security.
There are income limits- phase out for the full deduction starts at $75,000 for a single and $150,000 for married filing jointly.
