The future is... well, soon, when it comes to managing high cholesterol.
Scientists are testing a gene-editing therapy that turns off one of the genes responsible for generating LDL in the liver. In small clinical trials, the therapy has reduced LDL by 78 mg/dl -- and that reduction has held for at least a year.
Still a long way from approval by the FDA. But even then, the next question becomes whether and how companies will cover the one-time treatment.
