As many know, October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. Most of us have had friends or family members affected by this widespread and too often devastating disease. To support the cause, our Hilb Southborough associates hosted a PINK OUT! Day yesterday to support The Ellie Fund.

The Ellie Fund provides essential support services for breast cancer patients to ease the stresses of everyday life, allowing the focus to be on family, recovery and healing.

Ellie Fund services include grocery gift cards, nutritious prepared/delivered meals, transportation to medical appointments, childcare reimbursement, housekeeping, and integrative therapy services, free of charge. Ellie Fund is honored to assist breast cancer patients receiving treatment in Massachusetts, including patients traveling to Massachusetts for their breast cancer care.

Every year in December, the Hilb Group of NE - Southborough Location participates in a local charity to help a community in need during the holiday season. This year, we chose to participate in Planting The Seed Foundation's 51st Annual Holiday Toy Drive.

Planting the Seed Foundation is a non-profit organization that is committed to improving the lives of families in need throughout Worcester and the Central Massachusetts area. Every year, the Planting the Seed Foundation organizes multiple events to create awareness about their mission, gather school supplies and holiday toy donations, and inspire financial contributions that enable us to effectively run their organization.

For more information about the Planting the Seed Foundation and how to participate, you can visit their website at https://plantingtheseed.org/. There is a full list of drop-off locations that are scattered in and around Worcester County.

We had a great time this weekend at the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University for their annual open house where we shared our Bears on Board program with the local community. We work closely with Tufts, providing them with stuffed animals to give to children and families when their pets go into surgery or during the unfortunate event of having to put a pet down. Thank You to all of our volunteers and to our sponsors who graciously donated to this great cause!

โ€œBears on Board has supported Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine for the past six years. Our veterinary teams in both the Large and Small Animal Hospitals are able to support children who are often experience a significant loss for the first time in their lives. The stuffed animals are a wonderful transitional object when loss and grief feeling overwhelming and frightening for children. We see them immediately light up when they are given the option to choose a stuffed animal. We also see relief and gratitude from the childโ€™s parent or guardian, as they sometimes struggle with how to support their child through a new and emotional experience. Additionally, our staff, who are exposed to death and loss frequently when helping critically ill animals, have expressed that the Bears on Board program gives them a good feeling when they are able to help a child even in a small way.โ€
