Christmas tree pick-up schedule in Scarborough!

Hello Friends!! Ready to be free of your Christmas tree? Scarborough Public Works is conducting curbside pickup for real trees (nothing artificial) throughout the month. Place your tree on the curbside on the same day as your trash collection any week in January. Some reminders:

🌲 Place your tree far enough from the curb that it will not get hit by a car or covered by a snowplow, but still within reach for our crew.
🌲 Please put it out on the day of your trash collection so it doesn't freeze to the ground.
🌲 If it is snowing on the day you plan to put your tree out for pick up, please wait until the following week. If snowing (or dangerous road conditions) our crew will be plowing rather than picking up trees.

Trash & tree pick up will not be happening at the same time; Public Works does tree pickup separate from the Pine Tree Waste trash/recycle pickup. Thank you for your patience!

Great news for Maine residents 65 and over who have owned their home for at least 10 years!

You may have heard about L.D. 290 in the news. This is a new State of Maine law that will go into effect on August 8, 2022. L.D. 290 is “An Act to Stabilize Property Taxes for Individuals 65 Years of Age or Older Who Own a Homestead for at Least 10 Years.” This new law allows certain senior residents to stabilize, or freeze, the property taxes on their homestead. An applicant must be at least 65 years old, a permanent resident of the State, and must have owned a Maine homestead for at least ten years.

The logistics of administering this new law are still being worked through at the State level and we will share out more information as it becomes available. Currently, the Property Tax Division of Maine Revenue Services is creating application materials and FAQ documentation for the new law. This guidance will be issued by August 8th.

Once the Scarborough Assessing office has received instructions and application materials from the State, we will notify residents when they can start applying. For more details, please contact the State's Property Tax Division at (207) 624-5600 or [email protected].

Scarborough friends who are Veterans 🇺🇸 or 60+ you should stop by Town Hall and pick-up your free beach pass for the Summer 🌊

Memorial Day Weekend brings the unofficial start to summer! This Saturday, May 28 is also the start to fee collection at all Town-operated beach parking lots. Take note before you go, or consider buying a parking pass for the season (available for purchase weekdays at Town Hall). Daily parking fees remain in effect through Labor Day.

🏖 Our Town-operated beaches are Higgins, Ferry, and Pine Point (Hurd Park). Enjoy your visit!
