Why life insurance is not something you should wait on..
I have a lot of clients who say they don't need their own personal life insurance policy. Here's the common "no's' I hear-
- I have it through work
- I am young, I don't need it yet
- Isn't it expensive?
- I'm single, why would I need it?
I've learned in my experience as an insurance agent that it is my responsibility to teach people on why you need life insurance. I didn't grow up in a financial literate household so no one ever had these conversations with me. I want to give my clients the education that they might not have received, like me.
As an insurance agent, it's my job to protect your entire household and that 100% includes life insurance.
Here's my reasons to all those "no's"
- life insurance through your employer is typically just one year's salary, if you were to pass away tomorrow, would that one check cover your mortgage, your debts, and any future finances you planned on paying (i.e. college tuition). Also, this means you have to work and hold this job until you die in order for your family to benefit. What if you change jobs? Open your own business? Or retire? Then you no longer have life insurance and you're now "x" amount of years older shopping for life insurance, and the premium will be way more expensive.
- younger means lower premium. That's actually the BEST time to purchase life insurance. Life insurance is a policy that you lock in the rate when you take it out. It's not going to go up annually like your home and auto may. Young also typically means you're healthier. One prescription, one diagnosis could make you ineligible for life insurance. Please get it now while you can and lock in that low premium. Having to share with a client that they've been denied is one of the most difficult things. Please don't let this be you.
- it is actually more affordable than you think! And also, you can start small- get approved and then when your budget grows, you can get more life insurance. This most important thing is taking it out when you CAN get approved. Life insurance isn't a one and done type of policy. Life changes, expenses change, needs change. When you work with an agent who has your best interest at heart, we keep the conversation going.
- life insurance can also benefit YOU, while you're alive!! Say what?? Yes! With the right policy, you can grow cash value, have riders on there that can pay YOU directly if you become chronically ill and can no longer work.
Remember this, some life insurance is ALWAYS better than none.
