September is life insurance awareness month ❤️

I know it's a topic many people avoid but having conversations early is so important and it's why I talk to every one of my clients about life insurance.

I hear it all of the time- I have it through work, I'm all set... And let me tell you a few reasons why you should consider having your own life insurance:

1- typically life insurance through work is about one year's salary. Oftentimes this is not enough to cover funeral costs, mortgage, debts, raising children or caring for aging parents.

Having your own life insurance policy puts you in control of how much you leave behind so your family doesn't have to struggle financially.

2- you don't "own" your work life insurance. If you leave jobs or retire, your life insurance policy is now gone.

Having your own life insurance policy gives you the opportunity to choose permanent or term insurance so you can keep that policy in force as long as you want. And once you get approved, you keep the same payment each month as long as the policy is set for. Life insurance doesn't go up annually like home or auto.

3- the longer you wait, the more expensive it becomes AND your risk of being ineligible becomes greater.

Having your own life insurance policy and getting approved before any health concerns come up is crucial. I've had to tell people (ages 27, 43, and 51) that they were denied for life insurance based on their health history.

Life insurance can be a temporary thing- to cover high expenses during working years like the mortgage, daycare, college, etc

Or life insurance can be permanent - something to have in place to cover funeral expenses so your family doesn't have to fund it for you. Or even one that accumulates aggressive cash value growth for you to spend, while you're still living!

Every individual is different and that's why it's so important to just talk about it. Start the conversation now.

We protect our cars, our homes, our boats, and our pets but so many people forget to protect their loved ones.

Life insurance is the single policy that could impact those who you leave behind.

So why life insurance? Well for me, it's because I want to know that if I were no longer here, my wife doesn't have to stress about how she's going to pay the mortgage, what she'll have to do if she can't pay my portion of the bills, and also to allow her time to grieve and not have to worry about missing work on top of handling all that comes with losing a loved one.

My wife lost her dad when she was only 9 years old, leaving behind her, her mom, and her 14 year old sister. If her dad didn't have a life insurance policy, her life would have been completely different.

If you have anyone who depends on you financially, whether it's a spouse or children or an aging parent, please take this as a sign to get life insurance.

And don't wait! One diagnosis, one medication, one unexpected hospital visit could make you ineligible. Yes there are more people than you realize who do get denied the opportunity to hold life insurance. So please don't wait, you can't predict the future.

Once you take out a policy, you lock in that rate and depending on the type of policy, you can also lock in eligibility. Whether you need coverage for a short period of time (to pay off a mortgage, cover debts, etc) or if you want to just have a policy to cover your final expenses so your family doesn't have to create a GoFundMe to fund your funeral, just please don't wait.
