If we all could feel so moved by our national anthem and all that our founding fathers sacrificed so we might have the freedom their fight allows us to still have. We need to fight, not necessarily with fists but with support of our country, using our privilege to vote and doing what we can to preserve our freedoms.

I hope many of my friends with businesses were able to get the ERC refund the federal government had to help businesses recover from COVID before the program suddenly ended earlier this year. Until recently, there wasn't much help for the little guy, the "gig worker" and solopreneur and mom and pop, but there is a new federal program, Self-Employed Tax Credit, SETC, a refund of self-employed taxes you paid up to $32,200, for those like us running small businesses that doesn't expire until April 18, 2025. Getting back to my friend, Lauren (Freitas) Wells’ great book on healing grief and trauma which I purchased on Amazon. This paragraph really speaks to me: “We cope because we don’t have a choice - we have to survive. As difficult things happen in our childhood, we learn what works to soothe the pain and get us through. These survival skills, whether they are helpful long term or not, served us at that moment. As our Grief Tower stacks (think a big Jenga game, with new grief built on top of the crash of the pile and very unstable), our coping skills grow in number and intensity. Most of us have a mix of healthy and unhealthy coping skills, and most of us, if we look carefully, can trace the most subconscious ones back to some of our earliest Grief Tower blocks.”

I started reading Lauren’s book just to support her, but at nearly 60, it feels good to have time and a great resource to address the childhood hurts we all have, regardless of how great our parents were, and begin to heal and respond in healthier ways to new hurts.

Sierra’s VBS started last night. Last Wed we had 47 young people coming and last night over 100 arrived! I had 6 four year old boys and could never have survived without Aleksy’s great help! My grandson Hunter didn’t want to be there in the beginning and by the end of the night he asked where his friends were going. Just like his brother and sister years before, I pray he meets Jesus at VBS through the songs, ganes, Bible stories and love shown by his new friends and all the volunteers.

One of my greatest achievements this year! Starting I er again tomorrow. Brian Hardin’s commentary just keeps getting better now going in to his 18th year. His wife Jill and daughter China read the DAB Chronological and 11 year old son Ezekiel does the Kids version. There are Psalms and Proverbs for those with less time and the prayer community of listeners around the world gives great connection. Join me in 2023! It will change your life, especially when the world around us seems often quite unhinged.
