Beginning Monday, May 11, the South Haven Area Water Sewer Authority will be conducting their annual fire hydrant and water main flushing program in the City of South Haven, Casco Township and South Haven Township. Depending on weather conditions and operational schedules the flushing will take place weekdays between 4 a.m. and 5 p.m. The work is anticipated to continue through mid-June.

Annual hydrant flushing is an important part of maintaining the water distribution system. The process helps remove naturally occurring sediment and mineral deposits from water mains, ensures hydrants and valves operate properly and helps maintain water quality throughout the system.

Water remains safe for drinking and normal use during flushing operations. However, customers may temporarily experience cloudy or discolored water, and brief reductions in water pressure. If discoloration occurs, customers should run a COLD water faucet until the water becomes clear. This will prevent sediment from entering your hot water tank. Residents are encouraged to avoid doing laundry while flushing is occurring in their area as discolored water may stain clothing.
