He was paying $710 a month for health insurance.
It was a plan he barely used.

The biggest Medicare mistake I see in Florida happens before you even sign up.

Most people assume they can just "add" Part B whenever they feel like it.
They wait. They miss their window.
Then they find out the government doesn't just let you catch up for free.

If you miss your Initial Enrollment Period: that 7-month window around your 65th birthday: you could be in trouble.
Unless you have specific, "creditable" coverage through a large employer, the clock is ticking.

Missing that window means a 10% penalty on your Part B premium.
For the rest of your life.
It’s not a one-time fine. It’s a permanent price hike on your healthcare.

Getting the timing right is more important than choosing the plan itself.

Most people in Volusia County renew their health plan every year without checking.
