𝗦𝗖𝗔𝗠 π—”π—Ÿπ—˜π—₯𝗧 | Did you receive this text today? Take a deep breath... it does 𝗑𝗒𝗧 mean you have an unpaid traffic ticket... it's a scam!

Several people have been calling into our department today to ask whether this text is legitimate... π—œπ—§'𝗦 𝗑𝗒𝗧!

The full text threatens to suspend your vehicle registration/driving privileges unless you click on a link to pay this "fine" by June 6.

Do 𝗑𝗒𝗧 click the link.

So... how can we tell that it's a scam?

🚩The text comes from a strange email address (check out the screenshot in the comments).

🚩 The "Indiana Department of Vehicles" is not a thing.

🚩 "North Indiana State Administrative Code" is also not a thing.

🚩 We, as police officers, have not been instructed to start "enforcing" any of this on June 7.

🚩 The full text (which you can read in the comments) states it will "transfer to a toll booth and charge a 35% service fee." (What does that even mean?!)

Anyway... one day it's a lost package at USPS, another day it's an unpaid toll. Same scam, different wording. Scammers, please feel free to lose our numbers. ✌️

P.S. If the DMV does have an issue with your registration, they prefer snail mail. Not texts from gibberish email addresses.
