Thanksgiving brings friends and family together to swap stories, share favorite recipes and reflect on what makes us grateful.
This Thanksgiving, make sure your pet stays safe by avoiding these common holiday table scraps that can turn a “get together” into “get to-the-veterinarian” fiasco.
• Rich or fatty foods: Dark meat turkey, turkey skin, gravy, anything made with cream or butter, bacon, sausage, ham and drippings can lead to serious illness like pancreatitis.
• Toxic foods: Avoid onions, garlic, shallots, grapes, raisins, chocolate, alcohol, xylitol (a common sugar substitute) or anything made with these ingredients—they’re toxic to pets!
• Bones: Animal bones—whether from poultry, fish, pork or beef—can injure pets’ mouths, harm their teeth, lead to choking or end up causing intestinal damage if swallowed.
