I’ve recently had A LOT of questions regarding when someone can apply for Medicare and their health plan.

If you’re not receiving social security prior to turning 65 you will need to apply for your Medicare. If you’re taking your social security benefits you will automatically get your Medicare card with an effective date of the 1st day of the month in which you turn 65. If your birth day is on the 1st your coverage starts the month BEFORE you turn 65.

And if you’re working past 65 but ready to retire then that’s a whole other set of timelines.

Having a professional broker help you navigate when to apply and choose a plan that fits your needs, is important.

The enrollment season is upon us and BIG changes are coming across the board. I urge everyone to please have your plan reviewed this year. You don’t want to get caught Jan 1 without a plan or a plan that is no longer covering your prescriptions or providers.

It’s important to look at your explanation of benefits! Scammers are striking daily and when fraudulent claims are made, that affects everyone. If you see any claims for services that were not provided to you Give your agent or insurance company a call and report it!

Check your Medicare Summary Notices carefully! If you see a charge for a service you didn’t get or a product you didn’t order (like a catheter or a knee brace), it may be fraud. Call 1-800-MEDICARE to report it. Get more tips for spotting fraud at https://go.medicare.gov/44Rdtm1.
