When it comes to your accounts:

Your beneficiary form usually outranks your will.

Make sure it’s up to date.

Step 1: Know Your Numbers

Before you can build a budget, you need one thing: clarity.

Start by writing down:

✔ Your monthly take-home income
✔ Fixed bills
✔ Variable expenses
✔ Subscriptions and memberships
✔ Average food and gas spending
✔ Those “random” purchases—yes, Target runs count

Don’t estimate. Look at your actual spending.

You can’t manage what you don’t measure.

Are You Using the Right Retirement Plan?
Not every small business should use the same retirement plan.

A SIMPLE IRA may offer simplicity and lower administrative responsibility.

A SEP IRA may work well for a business with few or no employees.

A 401(k) may allow larger contributions and more plan-design flexibility.

The right choice depends on:

✔ Your income
✔ The number of employees
✔ How much you want to contribute
✔ Whether you want to help employees save
✔ How much administration you’re willing to manage

Don’t choose a retirement plan simply because it was the easiest one to open.

Choose the one that fits where your business is going.

Start estate planning before you “feel old.”

That feeling usually shows up too late.

Why You Need a Budget—Even If You Think You Don’t

Let’s get this out of the way:

A budget is not a punishment.
It’s not a diet.
And it’s definitely not financial jail.

A budget is simply a plan for your money—whether you have a little or a lot.

Without a plan, money has a funny way of disappearing.

With a plan, your money starts doing what YOU want it to do.

Your future self will thank you. 😉

A profitable business can still run out of cash.

Revenue and cash flow are not the same thing. Customers may pay late, expenses may increase, or equipment may need to be replaced at the worst possible time.

A healthy cash reserve can help your business:

✔ Cover payroll and operating expenses
✔ Handle unexpected repairs or emergencies
✔ Navigate slower business cycles
✔ Avoid relying on high-interest debt
✔ Take advantage of new opportunities

The right reserve will vary by business, but the goal is the same:

Give yourself enough breathing room to make good decisions—even when business doesn’t go according to plan.

Home equity is great.

But it’s not your retirement plan.

You can’t pay your monthly bills with a paid-off kitchen.

Is Your Business Your Retirement Plan?
“My business is my retirement plan.”

That may be true—but it shouldn’t be your only plan.

The value of a business can change because of the economy, competition, industry trends, or the owner’s health. Even a successful business may take longer to sell—or sell for less—than expected.

Building investments outside your business can give you:

✔ Another source of retirement income
✔ More flexibility about when to retire
✔ Less pressure to accept the first offer
✔ Financial security that doesn’t depend on one asset

Your business can be part of your retirement plan without being the entire plan.

📉 Every "dip" isn't a disaster.

Sometimes it's a discount. 💰

Market pullbacks can feel uncomfortable, but they can also create opportunities for long-term investors. Keep your focus on the bigger picture. 📈
