WARNING!!! Protect Yourself from Storm Repair Scams.
With the recent severe weather in Solon, we are receiving reports of solicitors offering hail repair for vehicles and homes. While many companies are legitimate, some are not. The Better Business Bureau (BBB) has shared helpful tips to protect yourself.
After a storm, take your time assessing damage. Contractors and insurance adjusters will likely be in high demand, so patience is important.
If someone comes to your door offering repairs, ask to see their city issued solicitor permit, take their information, and research the company before signing anything or paying money. Reputable businesses will welcome the opportunity to be checked out. If they have no city issued permit, please call the Solon Police: 440-248-1234 and report it.
Homeowners should review a company’s rating, complaint history, years in business, and customer reviews before hiring them.
Helpful tips to protect yourself:
• Research companies at BBB.org before signing contracts
• Don’t feel pressured to make quick decisions
• Compare multiple estimates before choosing a contractor
• Avoid paying in cash
• If payment is required, consider paying in stages (for example: after work begins, halfway through the project, and after completion)
The lowest bid is not always the best value. Make sure the company is qualified, communicates clearly, and has a solid track record.
