The Fed left policy rates unchanged at their May meeting. Fed Chair Powell said he expects reaching the goal of 2% inflation to take longer than previously thought. As home prices rise, the possibility of lower rates later may not be enough to make mortgage payments more affordable. If you can afford a purchase now, this may be the time to act. Inflation's down. Is it time to make a move? When the Consumer Price Index showed prices were unchanged for the month of October, mortgage rates immediately fell. Markets are likely to remain volatile, though, as investors try to anticipate the Fed's next move on rates. REMINDER: Property tax payments for Kenai Peninsula Borough are due October 15th.

When you close on a mortgage, your lender may set up a mortgage escrow account where part of your monthly loan payment is deposited to cover some of the costs associated with home ownership.(e.g., property taxes, insurance premiums, and mortgage insurance) Your Loan Servicer will use those collected funds to pay the KPB tax bill on your behalf.

The Fed left policy rates unchanged at their September meeting. They will continue to monitor economic conditions to see if further adjustments are required to bring inflation to their 2% goal, and a majority of members expect another rate increase this year.
