Members of the Smackover State Bank team recently attended the Boys & Girls Club of Union County's Youth of the Year Celebration. The evening honored Jeanasia Richmond as the 2026 Youth of the Year and featured inspiring remarks from Brett Shockley, Head Football Coach at El Dorado High School, and Don Harrison, Head Football Coach at Smackover High School.

Congratulations to Jeanasia on this well-deserved recognition. We appreciate the Boys & Girls Club's commitment to encouraging leadership, character, and success in the lives of young people throughout our community. 💙

🚨 Fraud Friday: When a Scam Becomes Something More 🚨

A few weeks ago, we talked about romance scams. More recently, we discussed money mule scams.

What many people don't realize is that these scams are often connected.

The FBI video below shares the story of a romance scam victim who was persuaded to move money for scammers and ultimately found herself facing serious consequences. The story is a powerful reminder that scammers don't just target victims, they sometimes convince victims to unknowingly help them victimize others.

We encourage you to take a few minutes to watch this video and share it with someone you care about.

The best protection against fraud is awareness.

🚨 Fraud Friday: Before You Click, Download, or Call 🚨

Scammers are becoming increasingly creative. A text message about an unexpected charge, a pop-up warning, or an unfamiliar app download can quickly lead to a scam.

Their goal is often to create panic and convince you to call a phone number, provide personal information, share security codes, or grant access to your device.

Protect yourself by remembering:

✅ Only download apps from trusted sources.

✅ Be cautious of unexpected texts, emails, or pop-ups claiming there's a problem with an account.

✅ Never call a phone number provided in a suspicious message.

✅ Never share passwords, security codes, or online banking credentials.

✅ Be cautious if someone asks to connect by FaceTime, screen share, or remote access software to "help" you.

✅ If something doesn't feel right, stop and verify with a trusted source before taking action.

📱 Scammers create urgency. Take a moment to verify.

Today, Jeff White, EVP, and Lindsey Yeager, SVP, had the opportunity to visit Southern Arkansas University as part of the Backpack to Briefcase event. They spoke with Dr. Juma’s Principles of Marketing class about the importance of networking, gaining real-world experience, and what students can expect as they begin their careers. They also had the privilege of participating in mock interviews with students preparing to enter the workforce.

The Southern Arkansas University Rankin College of Business is developing an impressive group of future business leaders, and it was a pleasure to spend time with such an engaged and motivated class. 🚨 Fraud Friday: The Jury Duty Scam 🚨

Missed jury duty? That's not how the courts will contact you.

Scammers call, text, or email claiming you've missed jury duty and must pay a fine immediately to avoid arrest.

Their goal is to create panic so you'll send money before verifying the information.

Protect yourself by remembering:

✅ Courts do not demand immediate payment over the phone.

✅ Be suspicious of threats involving arrest or legal action.

✅ Never provide personal or financial information to an unsolicited caller.

✅ If you're concerned, contact the court directly using a trusted phone number.

🚨 Fraud Friday: The Money Mule Scam 🚨

Have you ever been asked to receive money and send it to someone else?

It may sound like a simple favor, a work-from-home opportunity, an investment, or an easy way to make money. But it could be a money mule scam.

A money mule is someone who moves money on behalf of another person. In many cases, the money being moved was stolen from someone else.

Scammers may ask you to receive funds and then send the money by:

💰 Money Order
📄 Cashier's Check
💳 Prepaid Card
🏦 Wire Transfer

What they don't tell you is that you may be helping move stolen money from another victim.

Protect yourself by remembering:

✅ Never accept money from someone you don't know and send it somewhere else.

✅ Be cautious of job offers or opportunities that involve receiving and forwarding money.

✅ If someone asks you to move money for them, stop and ask questions.

✅ If an opportunity sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

✅ If you're unsure, talk to your bank before sending money.

Many people involved in money mule scams don't realize they're helping criminals move stolen funds until it's too late.
