Smackover’s offense provided plenty of fireworks in 2025.
If Friday night is any indication, the Bucks will be keeping scoreboard operators busy in 2026.
Trason Parlor ran for two scores and threw for two more to lead Smackover past McGehee 38-6 in the season opener for both schools.
The win is the first for the Bucks in the series since 2015 and snaps a four-game losing streak to the Owls.
Friday’s game was also the first for Smackover on their new turf field, and the Bucks wasted little time in taking advantage of a miscue to take the lead.
Smackover recovered the opening kickoff and drove 22 yards for their first points on the new turf.
Parlor opened the scoring on a tough 6-yard run up the middle at the 9:36 mark of the opening period.
The Bucks turned the ball over on downs in the red zone on their next possession, but a second turnover by the Owls on special teams allowed Smackover to pad their lead.
Forced to punt, Madison McElroy recovered a fumble on the snap and returned it 3 yards for a touchdown to make it 12-0.
The Bucks extended their lead just under two minutes later thanks to another big play.
After forcing the Owls to punt, the Bucks needed just one play to extend their lead after Kieundre Billingly found a crease over the left side and accelerated 72 yards to paydirt to give Smackover an 18-0 lead.
The Bucks led by the same score at the end of the first quarter, but extended their lead on their first offensive play of the second quarter.
Parlor rolled to his left and fired a 52-yard strike to Derwin Goodwin to make it 24-0 just 12 seconds into the second stanza.
Smackover’s longest drive of the game spanned 80 yards with Parlor continuing to put his elusiveness on display.
On the first play of the drive, Parlor dropped the snap, but quickly picked the ball up and broke several tackles for 8 yards.
Parlor then connected again with Goodwin for 22 yards down the right sideline before McElroy picked up 22 more yards with a run over the right side.
Parlor capped the drive by lofting a pass just as he was hit that Braxton Bryant hauled in the back of the end zone for a 17-yard strike with Parlor’s run on the 2-point conversion extending the lead to 32-0.
Parlor then put on a final dazzling display in the third quarter to cap his big night.
After taking the snap, Parlor rolled to his left, but quickly ran into a McGehee defender. The junior then went back to his right and eluded a second McGehee defender before making his way down the sideline for a 32-yard touchdown run to give the Bucks a 38-0 edge with 5:56 to play in the third period.
The Owls spoiled the shutout bid with a touchdown late in the game to make the final margin.
Smackover (1-0) will host Union County rival Junction City next Saturday.
