Wednesday, 8/5. We hosted the Albany County joint fire department auxiliary picnic/meeting.

Thursday, 8/6. We hosted the annual Town of Bethlehem Seniors chicken BBQ.

Saturday, 8/8. We attended a car show at VM Choppy and sons sheet metal supply store in Slingerlands with our 1942 Seagrave, 31-40 and 31-30.

The Bethlehem Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance in locating Ambar R. Parra-Carbo.

Ambar is believed to be in the Bronx and has ties to New York City and Schenectady. If you have seen her or know where she may be, please contact the Bethlehem Police Department at 518-439-9973 or the NYS Missing Persons Clearinghouse at 1-800-346-3543.

Last night at National Night Out during the First Responders Award ceremony Past Chief Brian Sleurs was awarded Fire Fighter of the Year for the Slingerlands Fire Department. Chief Brian Sleurs dedication to the department, district and residents of Slingerlands is unwavering. Thank you for your last 4 years as Assistant Chief and your 40 plus years as a volunteer firefighter!!

Prayers to the member involved it this incident!!!

This afternoon, a member of our local/department, was involved in a critical incident during the course of his duties, causing serious injuries and was subsequently airlifted to a hospital out of the area, following treatment on scene by Albany Fire Department personnel.

While this incident continues to unfold, we ask the Albany community, brother and sister firefighters, and the public in general to keep our member and his family in your thoughts.

Chief Sleurs and FF Fabe had the pleasure of attending FF Anderson “Dump” Ridgway’s graduation ceremony from firefighter one. Thank you to the Elsmere Fire Department for hosting the event. Congratulations to everyone!!! Never stop learning!!!

I would personally like to thank the men and women of the Slingerlands Fire Department for their hard work during the heavy rains yesterday!! Along with every other department in the Town of Bethlehem our members worked 16hrs straight and responded to 25 calls in and outside our district. Special thanks to the North Bethlehem Fire Department for coming down and taking a few calls while my members were able to get a bite to eat. Working together is what the Volunteer Fire service is all about!!! If you want to help your community and neighbors, please come and join and see what it’s all about!!!

Don’t forget to sign up for the annual Slingerlands Fire Department Golf Tournament! There are still plenty of spots available

On behalf of The Slingerlands Fire Department, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, I am pleased to invite you to support our Annual Tournament. This year’s event will be held on Saturday, September 26th at Sycamore Country Club. Proceeds from this event will fund The Slingerlands Fire Department Community Outreach Programs.

Time for the Weekly Member Spotlight. Brace yourself for this one because we have a lot to say. No seriously, grab your reading glasses.

Introducing our Rescue Lieutenant Richie Conger! Lt. Conger has been a staple of the Slingerlands Fire Department for his whole life. He originally started out helping around the firehouse then became our department photographer! But for the last 6 years he’s been an active firefighter. He has served previously as Fire Lieutenant as well! Lt. Conger consistently trains and takes as many courses as he can. He believes in continuously learning new techniques and honing his skills. Lt. Conger also serves on various committees and is the reason why our Haunted House is so spooky and spectacular every year!

Lt. Conger says that the best part of the fire service is the sense of pride you feel when you’re able to use the skills you’ve learned to help the community and that you get to work alongside people that you consider family.

During the day Lt. Conger works as the food service manager for a local school district. We can guarantee that he’s as friendly and kind there as he is to everyone at the firehouse. Lt. Conger likes to spend time capturing photos and being an announcer at Motocross races.

Lt. Conger loves when people exercising outdoors stay safe and hydrated, especially during the summer. But don’t worry if you need rescuing, he would be stoked to come to your aid.
