Our Story

Marsh & McLennan Agency established its Sioux Falls office when it acquired Howalt+McDowell Insurance in 2012.

Howalt+McDowell Insurance began in 1946 as a loan and real estate operation and the insurance department was added in 1957. With an exceptional focus on treating "client as king" Howalt+McDowell soon grew into South Dakota's largest brokerage. That same fierce commitment to service continues today as a Marsh & McLennan Agency LLC company.

The Sioux Falls office places a particular pride in philanthropy with its extensive support of local and regional non-profits. For five years running, every Sioux Falls-area employee has contributed to the Sioux Empire United Way and the agency has consistently provided 1% of the total SEUW campaign goal. The Community Relations Committee meets monthly to review donation requests and allocate funding.
