Hello everyone! As we begin the new year, we’re no strangers to cold temperatures in the Midwest. Attached is a checklist to keep in mind as we experience well below-freezing conditions, helping you protect both yourself and your property.
Know the 7 risks of extreme cold:
1. Ice-related power outages
2. Frozen and Burst pipes
3. Roof stress and ice damming
4. HVAC strain/failure
5. Sprinkler system freeze-ups
6. Wind driven ice damage
7. Wood and pellet stove fires
If the power goes out, avoid using candles, as they increase the risk of fire. Battery-powered flashlights are a safer alternative. To retain warmth, limit opening doors and refrigerators. Keep generators away from buildings and out of enclosed spaces to prevent fire and carbon monoxide poisoning. Always stay clear of downed power lines.
Please review the checklist and take proactive steps now to stay safe and minimize risks during extreme cold conditions.
