Today I am hosting another Medicare Made Easy seminar! I'd like to thank Dow Rummel Village for allowing me to host!

Medicare is a tricky topic and most of the plan's benefits change yearly ๐Ÿ˜ฎโ€๐Ÿ’จ. The seminars are strictly educational, so I may not discuss plan specifics or name any specific companies. But, if you wish to use me as a resource, I will gladly set up a one on one meeting to dive deeper into your Medicare options. Again, my services are completely free and I review your coverage every year!

Be on the lookout for a seminar near your town! And come grab some coffee and cookies while you learn ๐Ÿ˜‹

Next seminar will be in Brookings, SD on Wednesday, August 7th. More to come!

Have a good weekend!

Today's topic, Medicare Part D, Prescription Drug Coverage!

Prescription drug plans are offered through private insurance companies and are optional. However, if you choose not to take a Part D plan, you may be penalized later on in life, when you finally do choose a Part D plan. This penalty remains in force for as long as you have coverage.

When enrolled into a Part D plan, you'll be responsible for deductibles, coinsurance and co-pays based on the tier of your prescriptions. Drug tiers are often times set up as follows:
Tier 1: Preferred Generics
Tier 2: Generics
Tier 3: Preferred Brands
Tier 4: Brands
Tier 5: Specialty

Most Prescription Drug Plans have 4 phases or stages:
- Deductible Phase, Initial Coverage Phase, Coverage Gap (Donut Hole), and Catastrophic Coverage.

Note! Most Medicare Advantage (Part C) plans have drug coverage attached. So, you don't need to purchase a separate drug plan! Also, if you are a veteran or your spouse is a veteran, it's possible you can receive your prescriptions from the VA clinic or through TRICARE for Life and not need to purchase a Part D plan.

- Medicare Advantage is a Medicare-approved plan from a private company that offers an alternative to Original Medicare for your health and drug coverage. These โ€œbundledโ€ plans include Part A, Part B, and usually Part D.
- In most cases, youโ€™ll need to use doctors who are in the planโ€™s network.
- Plans may have lower out-of-pocket costs than Original Medicare.
- Plans may offer some extra benefits that Original Medicare doesnโ€™t cover โ€” like vision, hearing, dental services, gym passes and over-the-counter benefits.
- Many Medicare Advantage (Part C) plans have as low as zero premiums.

Medicare is a federal health insurance for people age 65 and older, and under age 65 on Social Security Disability Income (SSDI) for 24 months or longer or earlier if diagnosed with certain diseases including End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) and Lou Gehrig's Disease (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis or ALS).

Over the next couple days I will break down Medicare into its four main parts; Part A, Part B, Part C and Part D. I will talk about Medicare Supplements, also known as, Medigap and lastly, I'll introduce you to Cost plans, which is a third option available to supplementing your Original Medicare. Next stop, "Part A".

May is Mental Health Awareness Month!

Make sure you and your loved ones are working on your mental and emotional health! Here are a few tips to improve your mental health.

1. Connect regularly with family and friends! Ask friends and family out for dinner, host a game or movie night.

2. Exercise! This one is my favorite. One thing folks might not know about me is I used to be a personal trainer before starting my career as an insurance broker!

3. Get plenty of sleep! Turn off your tv and try to stay off your phone about 90 minutes before you go to bed to try and improve your ability to fall asleep.

4. Practice mindfulness! This one I need to work on. Take time to meditate or think about those around you, the opportunities you have and to be thankful for those opportunities and people who support you. Try to forget about the bad, and think positively.

5. Eat Right! I'm no dietician, but make sure you're eating good healthy whole foods. Drink plenty of water. Stay away from sugary foods and drinks.
*Helpful hint* - Stay away from the center aisles in grocery stores. Stick to the outer perimeter such as the meat and produce sections.

6. Seek support! If you feel down and symptoms keep getting worse. Look to someone for help!

Life Insurance, do you need it? Here are a few good reasons why you should consider finding a plan:

1. Financial Protection for your loved ones.
The death benefit would provide a safety net, financially, and ensure that your loved ones don't need to deal with any financial distress during and already difficult time. Benefits are typically paid immediately. This means, keeping your home and other possessions and being able to keep your current style of living.

2. Education and Future Planning.
If you have children, the death benefit would be a valuable tool for future education. For single parent households, it becomes very difficult to afford college or future schooling for your children.

3. Tax-Free Death Benefit.
The money you receive from a life insurance policy is typically not subject to income tax.

4. Optional Rider's and Benefits to attach.
Finding life insurance policies that develop interest would be a good way to invest your money while also providing protection to you and your family. One example of a Rider that is worth attaching is the "Return of Premium" Rider. With this Rider attached to a life insurance policy, when you outlive the policy, you receive all the premiums you've paid over the course of the policy (10, 15, 20, 30 years). Providing you with a decent lump sum of cash to use for kitchen remodel that she's been talking about! ;)
