Good news! Scientists are reporting a 64% increase in migratory monarch butterflies in their wintering forests in Mexico—one of the most important habitats on Earth for the species.
Every year, these butterflies travel thousands of miles from the U.S. and Canada to the mountains of central Mexico. For years, their population has been declining due to climate change, deforestation, and habitat loss.
But this year… something changed.
The forests are filling up again. Trees once quiet are now covered in orange wings—bringing life back to a migration that once seemed at risk of disappearing.
It’s a reminder that when nature is protected, it can recover.
