📈 Mortgage rates are under pressure. Here’s what buyers need to know.

Geopolitical tensions are pushing oil prices higher, while the bond market is also reacting to a more hawkish tone from Kevin Warsh. With key jobs and inflation data ahead, mortgage rates could remain volatile as markets look toward the Fed’s September meeting.

But rates aren’t the whole homebuying story. Fannie Mae’s latest Home Price Expectations Survey projects 2.6% home-price appreciation in 2026 and roughly 15% cumulatively over the next five years.

That could mean about $75,000 in appreciation on a $500,000 home over five years if the forecast materializes.

Kevin Warsh struck a more inflation-focused tone at Jackson Hole, raising expectations that the Fed could consider another rate hike if inflation doesn’t continue moving toward its 2% target.
