LOCAL GRILLER WINS IN FARM BUREAU 62nd ANNUAL COOKOUT CONTEST
WEST DES MOINES, IOWA – Aug. 19, 2026 – Ben Zehr of Keswick won second place in the beef category of the 62nd annual Iowa Farm Bureau Federation (IFBF) Cookout Contest during the Iowa State Fair. He took home $200 provided by the Iowa Beef Industry Council.
“The Farm Bureau Cookout Contest is a fun way to bring people together around something Iowans know and love — a good, homegrown meal,” said Iowa Farm Bureau President Brent Johnson. “It’s also a chance to celebrate the farmers who put food on our tables and take pride in doing it well. Every day, they work to earn consumers’ trust through responsible farming practices and a commitment to producing quality food.”

Make plans to attend the 2nd Annual Safety Zone on Thursday July 16th from 1-3pm in the commercial building at The Keokuk County Expo!

Everyone is encouraged to participate, not just kids! Each person will leave with a bag of safety goodies from local businesses and knowledge of how to keep themselves safer in the sun, and around farm equipment. This is not just for farm kids. Anyone who could potentially spend time around any type of agricultural equipment can benefit from this event!
