Types of Work

There are different types of work you can identify with. Work you detest, work you tolerate, work you enjoy and work in your passion. If you are already dreading work on Monday, Friday night or if you visualized yourself winning the lottery and telling your boss to go to hell and not showing up for the next day. It's probably safe to say, you detest your job.

Before blaming your love to hate of this job on everyone else, ask yourself, why you hate this job so much? Is it because you are underemployed, pay inequality, lack of growth, a boss who over use power instead of skill? Or could it be, you are angry because you used to make more before the great recession... or is it because you settled?

It might be all of the aforementioned, but just know, your angst is your warning to do better. Although difficult, it's important not to feel stuck or hopeless. Your first step of work hate survival is to develop an action plan to move forward and away from your current work situation. It could be taking more classes to complete a degree or certification - or simply a plan to move towards a job you want. I can guarantee you that if you don't create an action plan, get used to feeling worthless. If your value goes unnoticed in a hopeless situation, why stay as it may be time for another job.

The second "work" is the career you tolerate. This job tends to be the job you were ecstatic about when you were first hired. Gradually, this job started to take a turn for the worse. Then overnight, this job was not what you originally thought it was. The team that presented itself during your interview, turned out to be a group of back stabbing selfish brown nosers - or you may be working under the constant threat of being laid off. There could be many reasons why you tolerate being unnoticed, underappreciated, but clearly you are uncomfortable enough to know, for health reasons, you may need to eventually separate yourself from this job.

There are no breakthrough solutions other than, you must have a plan B. The hatred is not the same as the job you detest, but the solutions are similar. You should move on. Otherwise, this job will leave you angry with everyone, including life. Soon you'll ask yourself, why me? Now it's time to empower yourself and put your strengths to work.

The third type of "work" is the job you enjoy. Finally, a little light. This job have great comradery, recognition, great work atmosphere and you can even save a little for retirement. This job scratch most of your itches; however, when it's silent there is still something missing. Although things are in place, there is still something that's leaving you empty and unfulfilled.

First, let me say it's so easy to tell people to work in their passion, break free and let go of fear. I'm telling you from my own personal experience, working in your passion is where you are most challenged. Believing the law of attraction and things falling into place just doesn't happen out of the blue. There is NO special passion waiting to be discovered, yet please understand that your passion isn't new, it's an idea and belief that must be cultivated and molested into success. Patience and faith will be the first practiced skilled. Second, if you don't develop a system of growth and find your unique value based solutions to your customers needs and wants, it will be difficult to find your success.

I have worked all four jobs at one place of employment, as well as four different places of employment. What moved me forward was acknowledging the problem and not blaming anyone, including not blaming myself. At the end of the day, I did what I had to do to support my family and no decision was the wrong decision, just a decision to get me closer to where I needed to be. You have to be conscious and connect to what your gut is telling you.

In closing, know your goals, write them out and limit criticism and negative opinions of others. Find a mentor and be reasonable. Simply ask yourself, what is your next best decision towards your goal and then act on it. Create a daily action plan and go after what makes you happy.

Be bold in your actions and good luck!
