Nor’easter Ahead – Take a Few Minutes to Secure Your Property

With a strong nor’easter expected to impact Massachusetts this weekend, now is a good time to take a few simple precautions to help protect your home and property.

Before the winds and rain arrive:

• Secure or bring inside patio furniture, umbrellas, grills, decorations, trash barrels, and other loose outdoor items.
• Check gutters and drains and clear away leaves and debris so water can flow properly.
• Make sure windows, doors, sheds, and gates are securely closed.
• Move vehicles away from large trees or branches when possible.
• Charge phones and portable batteries in case of a power outage.
• If your property is prone to water intrusion, check sump pumps and water sensors before the storm arrives.
• Avoid driving through flooded roadways and stay away from downed trees and power lines.

A little preparation ahead of the storm can go a long way toward preventing property damage.
