I went to the Springfield Coin Show last Sunday (great show). I’m focused on Illinois Bank Notes especially local or small population villages/towns. I picked up these 3 bank notes at a fair price with none being graded (more than likely I’ll get them graded).
Some things I observed and talked with vendors and buyers that I’d like to share with you about:
1. Buying selling of precious metals…the uncertainty of price going up/down whether it’s bullion or 40/90% US constitutional coins was down.
2. The currency market was slightly elevated due to no precious metals involved. The values book is over 8 years old and really doesn’t reflect the true market. The book needs to be revised cause auction prices are higher. The books value is the information about how many were produced, years, ect.
3. I did not see as many participants at the show (makes 2 times in a row) and some vendor’s tables were empty. There were a couple new vendors a plus.
4. The usual buyers sitting at tables looking over coins with magnifying glass and grey sheets for that missing year, mint mark or better condition will always be a priority.
My son and I enjoyed the show, talking with others and gave us an opportunity to get out of town. The FREE coffee and donuts sure helps PLUS only a $1 to get in!!
