What can a 2nd opinion do for you?

I was referred a client that is buying his 1st home with his wife. Initially they were just interested in a home quote, but it always makes sense to see what bundling home and auto does for you, as many carriers provide a discount on your home insurance if you bundle. What's the harm in checking, right?

Well, for this client, he found out he's been uninsured on his policy since 2020 due to how his policy was set up. Like many people, they set up their own policy online and didn't realize they had him as an excluded driver. This means that in the event of an auto claim, if he was driving, the claim is DENIED because he is excluded from the policy.❌🚙

You wouldn't self diagnose a medical issue or do your own mortgage, so why would you do your own insurance? Having an expert in your corner keeps your protected and insured the way you should be! Started the week off on a great foot saving a Marine over $1,600/yr on his home and auto! He is currently with USAA and they were going to charge him $2,116/yr on his new home's insurance, so he reached out for a 2nd opinion. I was able to get him a policy for $1,247/yr. Auto (not shown) had savings of $837/yr!

Although USAA is well-known for great customer service, it sometimes doesn’t make sense to stay if the savings are worth it. Remember-My goal is never to skimp on coverage to be competitive either. I will keep you covered with the right coverages, and then savings are just the cherry on top of the sundae.

Pro Tip: First and foremost, don’t get any traffic violations. The points that go on your license from the traffic violations will increase your insurance rate. If you must get a traffic violation (like speeding, seat belt, rolling stop, etc.), many counties have deferral programs.

For the deferral program, it is typically pay a fee, which varies depending on the county, and as long as you don’t get another ticket within the next 6 months, then the points from the violation will not go on your license.

The deferral program fee is likely significantly cheaper than the increase you’ll receive on your insurance if the points go on your license especially if the driver is under the age of 25.

I got a ticket in Carmel/Hamilton County back in 2010 going 5 over. Thought I made it on Carmel’s Most Wanted List with the amount of officers responding to the stop. I did Hamilton County’s deferral program. Their deferral program back then was a $60 donation to charity, and they had a list of charities for me to choose from. It was actually cheaper to participate in the deferral program than it was to admit guilt and pay the traffic fine. I was 19 at the time. A $60 donation was a no brainer compared to how much my insurance would have increased if I admitted guilt and let the points go on my license.

Always do the deferral program if available and you qualify to participate.

No April Fool’s joke here! Pull those cars into your garage, secure any patio furniture, and make sure to stay tuned into your local weather service for updates. I’d recommend having a ‘Go Bag’ prepped in case of evacuation. Pack it with essentials like a first-aid kit, water/food, flashlight, and some cash.

Storms are brewing. High winds and potential for hail and tornadoes in central Indiana this evening. Be proactive. Pull your vehicles into your garages, under a carport, under the healthiest tree on your property, whatever you have to do. Just because you can file a claim doesn't mean you want to. Filing claims leads to increased rates. Much easier to be proactive and try to prevent a claim rather than relying on insurance and risking a potential rate increase.
