Truman is doing great! We celebrated one year since he rang the bell signifying end of chemo treatment. This year he has been growing fast, and we love seeing him healthy and strong. He enjoys playing tennis, swimming and hanging out with friends. This summer he started his own business selling homemade, real lemonade that he bottles and labels by hand. If he’s not playing outside, you might find him building a fort in his bedroom.

We are grateful for many at Children’s Hospital but one stands out for us. Nurse Bonnie (Rydelski) helped us through some of the most difficult days of our lives. We could always depend on her to be compassionate, transparent, informative, and willing to bend over backwards to provide the best care for kids like Truman.

Along with cardiology, I am being monitored by a pulmonology team at Children’s as they discovered I also have a bronchial tube that has been pinched by my enlarged descending aorta. Currently, I am being watched by my cardiologist and a team of vascular specialists until they decide the best timing for these surgeries.

In the meantime, this fall I will enter my sophomore year at Edgewood University where I am studying nursing, and I will begin working at Children's Wisconsin after I graduate.

Children's has been such an incredible place that continues to provide the best care for my condition and allows me to live my best life possible. I am forever grateful for all the wonderful and caring doctors and nurses who have been part of my journey at Children's Wisconsin. I would not be where I am today without them.

Did you know? Children’s Wisconsin was founded in 1894 in a small cottage on Brady Street in Milwaukee, WI. Started by a pastor and 7 women volunteers, they provided proper healthcare and shelter to children for free. Today Children’s Wisconsin continues to ensure all kids have access to the best healthcare regardless of their financial situation.

Jaxon was diagnosed with Sagittal Craniosynostosis at 3 months old. He had his first surgery at 4.5 months to put springs in to expand his skull. 3.5 months later he had his second surgery to remove the springs. After his surgeries he had to wear a helmet for 5 months to continue supporting the shape and pressure of his head. With all the prayers and support, his surgeries have done what was needed and Jaxon is a healthy and very active 18-month-old, continuing to hit his milestones. We truly realized how blessed we are to have this amazing hospital so close to us. From those at the front desks, the nurses, our Drs and more, we couldn’t be more grateful.

A big shout out to Dr. Kim, Dr. Klement Tassone, and Dr. Shakir. Also, our nurse Jane.

Ellery was born 17 weeks early at a hospital in Madison and was transferred to Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin at 3 months of age when she had reached the limits of what the initial NICU could help her with. Thanks to the cutting-edge technology that CHW has and their amazing staff, she was able to come home from the NICU after a total of 183 days.

Since her release from the NICU, Ellery has required 3 additional hospitalizations and countless visits with numerous specialists throughout the CHW Main Campus and Mequon office. She continues to make huge strides in her growth and her speech and if you were to meet her today you may not be able to tell that she started out at 1lb 5oz and 12 inches long. Every single staff member who we’ve encountered has been amazing in their care and compassion to Ellery and our family. Thanks to them, going to doctor appointments isn’t scary for her. Whenever she sees the CHW logo, she says “my doctor!”.

Ellery is living her best life – she loves being outside and is loving everything that summer has to offer. She spends her days on her bike, her scooter, swimming, holding her own with her older brothers, crafting, and playing with her friends and her dog.

We will be forever grateful to Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin and their amazing staff.

Ophelia’s journey has come a long way since her appendicitis in 2019. We will always be grateful for the incredible care and compassion shown by the Children’s Wisconsin staff during those two weeks—it meant everything to our family.
Today, Ophelia is a thriving 10-year-old heading into 5th grade. She fills her days with the things she loves most: theater, volleyball, soccer, and spending time with her family, friends, and of course, puppies. We are so proud of her resilience, spirit, and joy.
