Should I invest new money when markets are volatile?

This is one of the most common questions I hear when headlines start getting noisy.

And the honest answer is: it depends less on the market—and more on your plan.

Volatility often feels like risk, and as people, we’re naturally conditioned to avoid risk and discomfort.

But for long-term investors, it’s usually just uncertainty in the short term.

Some things worth considering:
• Are you investing for the next 1–3 years, or the next 10–30?
• Do you already have a solid emergency fund in place?
• Is your current allocation aligned with your risk tolerance?
• Are you investing consistently—or trying to time “better” moments?

The investors who tend to stay on track long-term usually aren’t the ones who avoid volatility.

They’re the ones who stay disciplined through it.

Because the real risk isn’t market movement—it’s letting short-term emotion drive long-term decisions.

Important considerations: Investing involves risk, including the potential loss of principal. Investors should consider their time horizon, risk tolerance, and overall financial situation before making investment decisions.

A job change isn’t just a career move—it’s a financial transition.

Most people focus on the new salary, benefits, or title.

But the financial decisions made during a transition can have lasting effects long after the excitement wears off.

Questions like:
• What should I do with my old 401(k)?
• Should I roll it over or leave it where it is?
• Am I maximizing my new benefits package?
• Does my savings strategy still fit my new income?
• Does my financial plan still align with where I’m headed?

A job change is a natural time to step back and make sure your financial decisions are still working in your favor.

Sometimes the biggest financial progress happens during seasons of transition.

Important considerations: Retirement plan and investment decisions should be based on your individual situation, including goals, time horizon, fees, and available investment options. Not all strategies are appropriate for every investor.

“RMDs are mandatory. Paying unnecessary taxes on them isn’t.”

Here’s what most retirees don’t realize:

You can do everything “right” with your RMD—and still end up giving more to the IRS than necessary.
That’s where a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) can come in.
If you’re 70½ or older, you can send money directly from your IRA to a qualified charity. When done correctly, it may satisfy your RMD and help reduce taxable income.
If you’re already giving to charities, this can:
• Reduce taxable income
• Satisfy RMD requirements
• Support causes you care about
Same dollars. Different tax outcome.
And in retirement, that difference matters.

QCDs are not appropriate for every situation. Distributions must be made directly to qualified charities, contribution limits apply, and QCDs may not provide additional tax benefits for taxpayers who already itemize deductions. Investors should evaluate QCD strategies within the context of their overall tax and retirement plan.
