If you frequently drive Highway 75 to Topeka, be aware if lights are flashing when passing through two school zones!

Today, a new Kansas law takes effect prohibiting handheld phone use in active school zones. It’s a simple change that can make a real difference. Let’s slow down, stay focused, and do our part to keep kids safe!

Did you know this new law went into effect July 1? Be aware if driving through construction zones and school zones as students head back to school!

In April, Kansas lawmakers passed a bill making it illegal to hold a cell phone in those zones.

🔶U.S. 36 project to begin this week in Nemaha County

KDOT plans to begin a scrub seal project on U.S. 36 in Nemaha County on Thursday, July 30. Resurfacing work will take place between the eastern K-63 junction near Seneca and the Nemaha/Brown county line.

The active work area will be restricted to one lane, and traffic will be directed by flaggers and a pilot car. Drivers should plan for delays of up to 15 minutes.

A 12-foot width restriction will also be in effect through the work zone.

Work will occur during daylight hours Monday through Friday. The project is expected to be complete by late August, conditions permitting.

Vance Brothers Inc. of Kansas City, Mo., is the $940,000 project’s prime contractor.

KDOT urges motorists to stay alert, follow posted signs and refrain from hand-held mobile device use in all active work zones. For current road conditions, visit KanDrive.gov or call 511. For updates on highway projects in northeast Kansas, visit ksdot.gov/NortheastNews.
