If your Texas policy was declined, canceled, or nonrenewed, the letter should now tell you exactly why — not "underwriting guidelines," but the actual reason.

Texas homeowners pay more for insurance than any other state, and roof damage is the #1 reason why.

Governor Abbott just proposed a $400 million grant program to help homeowners build storm-resistant roofs. Up to $10,000 per home. Modeled on Alabama's program, where fortified homes filed 73–76% fewer claims after Hurricane Sally.

The bill heads to the legislature in January 2027. If you're planning a roof replacement before then, ask your contractor about FORTIFIED certification — some insurers already offer discounts.
