We need to brag about one of our insureds today! He is pretty much a rock star and a hero to our community!
Today on Meet Your Department, Sedalia Fire Department would like to highlight Firefighter Paul "Tumble" Humble. Paul started his journey in 2017 at Johnson County Fire Protection District while obtaining his certifications through Warrensburg Fire Department. He joined SFD in 2021 and enjoys being the Chauffeur for Squad 1.
Certifications that Humble holds are his Missouri Department of Public Safety, Division of Fire Safety Firefighter 1, Firefighter 2, Hazardous Materials Operations, Hazardous Materials Awareness, National Registry of EMT, Car Seat Technician, Vehicle Rescue Technician, Boat Rescue Operations Technician, Surface Water Rescue Technician, Response to Bombing Incidents, Gasoline Tank Truck Specialist, Radiological Emergency Management, Livestock in Disasters, Community Tsunami Preparedness, Military Resources in Emergency Management, Wildfire Mitigation Basics for Mitigation Staff, Rail Safety for Emergency Responders.
Firefighter Humble plans to serve a full career for the Sedalia Fire Department. Goals he has set for himself include getting his Time in Title Engineer (this is a program that helps personnel develop from being a Firefighter into becoming an Engineer), Promoting to Engineer, and some day becoming an Officer, either Lieutenant or Captain.
When asked what got him into the fire service, Humble answered, "I wanted to join the military. I am really proud about my time at Wentworth Military College. I enjoyed the comradery and brotherhood but when evaluating my career choices, I found the fire service.". Paul went on to explain, "The fire service was the next closest thing to the military and that is the route I chose."
"My favorite part of the job is to see the positive work in the community.". Humble states he is encouraged to see how his work helps the community, "We may run a patient one day and I will often think back to them and hope they are okay. It is such a relief to see former patients in public, like at the store, walking around in good health. That is such a good feeling." Firefighter Humble also goes on to state, "Another favorite part of the job is all the cool things [fighting fire, using big tools, etc.] I get to do in the fire service that other jobs do not offer. There is a variety of things and no one day is like another.".
Hobbies - Outdoor adventures, raising chickens and ducks, learning the banjo, long walks on the beach, pina coladas and getting caught in the rain.
Favorite Food - Tortas from Taqueria Chilango and Chimichangas from Don Jose.
Fun Fact - Humble has swam across the Neuse River, Mississippi River, Missouri River, Rio Grand River, and French Broad River.
