September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. Oof, we know. This is something most parents don't think about, and why would they want to? But supplemental cancer insurance and critical illness coverage typically must be purchased before a diagnosis, since these conditions are treated as pre-existing once diagnosed. That's why the best time to consider this coverage is while your family is healthy. It won't prevent cancer, but it can help protect your family financially if you find yourself in this painful situation.

And, if you're already facing a diagnosis, we can talk to you about your coverage options and help you find ways to get assistance.

Reach out if you'd like to learn more about your options.

We believe the best solutions begin with understanding the people and communities we’re here to serve.

Last week, the Royal Benefits team got to connect, listen, and learn. What stood out to us most...

• At the Des Moines and Normandy Park Business Roundtable, De’Andre, Dan, and Sue-Ann shared valuable perspectives on the economy and what business and property owners are experiencing.

• In Renton, we celebrated the Renton Historical Society and UDOD Dentistry, where Dr. Yuriy Udod is continuing a long-standing local practice following Dr. Mark McDaniels’ retirement.

• Liz joined branch manager Anna Ripich and KeyBank in celebrating its new branch in Black Diamond. They are such a great community partner - donating $10,000 to Black Diamond Historical Society and the Black Diamond Community Center!

Each gathering was unique, but they all had a common theme: meaningful support starts with consistently showing up, listening, and building relationships .

Thank you to the Renton Chamber of Commerce, Seattle Southside Chamber of Commerce, and Black Diamond Chamber of Commerce for bringing local people together.

We’re grateful to be part of it.

Our Royal Benefits team got a behind-the-scenes look at Virginia Mason Franciscan Health—trying CPR, inserting an IV, and even testing robotic surgery equipment. Safe to say, we’ll be sticking with employee benefits! 😄

One statistic really stood out: The U.S. could face a shortage of up to 86,000 physicians by 2036.

Healthcare costs matter—but so does access. Longer wait times, limited provider networks, and difficulty getting appointments all affect how employees experience their benefits.

Thank you to Virginia Mason Franciscan Health, Morehouse School of Medicine, and the Seattle Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce for such an informative and memorable event!

Benefits Bite: Does Your Renewal Date Work for You? | Royal Benefits

Most employers assume their health insurance renewal date is permanent. It isn't. In many cases, employers can move their renewal to better align with their business cycle, reduce administrative stress, and create a smoother Open Enrollment experience. Hoping to be expecting soon? Here's something many growing families don't think about until it's too late: supplemental insurance coverage can help offset income loss and out-of-pocket costs around childbirth.

Short-term disability can help replace a portion of your income during the time you're recovering and unable to work, while hospital indemnity coverage can help with costs related to a hospital stay for delivery. Together, they can ease some of the financial pressure during an already big life transition.

Here's the thing: these plans generally need to be in place BEFORE conception, so timing matters. If growing your family is on your radar for the future, NOW is a great time to look into your options.

If you have questions — we can help you understand your options.

🫐 Mixed Berry Crisp

Late summer brings an abundance of juicy blueberries, blackberries, and raspberries, making this simple dessert the perfect way to celebrate summer's harvest.

For the Filling:

2 cups (each) fresh blueberries, blackberries, raspberries
2 peaches, peeled and sliced (optional)
⅓ cup granulated sugar
2 tablespoons cornstarch
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
½ teaspoon cinnamon

For the Crumble Topping:

1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
1 cup all-purpose flour
¾ cup packed brown sugar
½ teaspoon cinnamon
¼ teaspoon salt
½ cup cold butter, cut into cubes

Directions

1) Preheat the oven to 350°F and lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.

2) In a large bowl, gently combine the berries, peaches (if using), sugar, cornstarch, lemon juice, vanilla, and cinnamon. Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish.

3) In another bowl, combine the oats, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Cut in the cold butter with a pastry cutter or your fingertips until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Sprinkle the crumble evenly over the fruit.

4) Bake for 40 to 45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the berry filling is bubbling around the edges.

Serve warm with a generous scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of freshly whipped cream.
