A Muslim is one who SUBMITS his face and soul entirely to the One and Only Creator of all creation, the Best Creator, Sustainer of all living things, ALLAH (the ONE GOD). Allah provides us with the first 5 verses of the 2nd Chapter of the Qur'an with the best description of Muslims.
بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم"In the Name of Allah, the Entirely Me

Alif, Lam, Meem. (meaning known only to ALLAH)
2:2
This is the Book about which there is no doubt, a guidance for those conscious of Allah -
2:3
Who believe in the unseen, establish prayer, and spend out of what We have provided for them,

And who believe in what has been revealed to you, [O Muhammad], and what was revealed before you, and of the Hereafter they are certain [in faith].
2:5
Those are upon [right] guidance from their Lord, and it is those who are the successful.
