**One of the most overlooked things in a life insurance policy? The beneficiary form.**

People spend time picking the right coverage amount, comparing rates, doing everything right — and then name a beneficiary once and never look at it again. Years pass. Marriages, divorces, kids, grandkids. The policy never gets updated.

Here's the thing: that beneficiary form overrides your will. It doesn't matter what your will says. Whoever's listed on that form gets the money.

I'd encourage you to pull out your policy this week or call the company if you can't find it and just confirm who's listed. It takes about 10 minutes, and it matters more than most people realize.

If you have questions about what you find, feel free to reach out.

Who's listed on yours — do you even remember?

**One thing I wish more people knew before they retired: **

Social Security is probably not enough on its own and most people I talk with already know that. But what surprises them is *how early* the math starts mattering.

If you're 10–15 years out from retirement and haven't looked at what your actual monthly income would be, it's worth doing the math now while you still have time to adjust. Not in a panic, just with clear eyes.

A lot of times, small changes made today make a big difference later. Waiting until 60 to figure it out is not wrong, but starting at 50 gives you options.

If you've ever wondered what your retirement income picture actually looks like, feel free to reach out.

**What's one thing you wish you'd started sooner financially? **

**One thing I hear a lot this time of year:**

*"I've been meaning to look at my life insurance; I just haven't gotten around to it."*

Totally understandable. It's not exactly a fun errand.

But here's what I've noticed: the people who put it off the longest are usually the ones who needed it the soonest. Not because anything bad happened just because life moves fast. New house, new baby, kid heading to college, spouse cutting back hours to care for a parent.

The coverage that made sense five years ago might not fit anymore.

It doesn't take long to take a look. And most of the time, people feel a lot better after they do.

If you've been meaning to get around to it, feel free to reach out. No pressure, no pitch just a conversation.

What's one life change that made you rethink your finances?

Something I hear pretty often when people are getting close to retirement age: "I figured I'd just figure it out when I got there."

I get it. Life is busy. Retirement feels far away until it suddenly doesn't. But the conversations I have with folks who are five or ten years out and haven't started putting a real plan together yet, those are harder than they need to be. Not impossible, just harder.

If you're somewhere in that window and you've been meaning to sit down and look at where things stand, it doesn't have to be a big production. Sometimes it's just a one-hour conversation to see what you're actually working with.

No pressure either way, but I'd rather you know where you stand sooner than later.

Feel free to reach out. What's something about retirement planning you wish you'd learned earlier?
