The FTC is changing its ruling regarding the definition of the word "diamond." Previously, a diamond had to be mined. Now, lab grown diamonds will qualify. Although the FTC is recommending the words "man made," "lab grown," or "foundry" to signify cultured, but so far not requiring it. It is interesting to note that the crystal formation differences between mined and cultured diamonds, which is absolutely different in pattern, was not discussed. What are your thoughts?

We, at SOPM and ROD, are saddened that DeBeers is taking such steps to sabotage strides that are being made to legitimize and make transparent the sourcing of legal diamonds. As quoted in this article by Rapaport, "The net effect of De Beers’ action is to deny legitimate companies and non-profit organizations such as the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) the ability to track the legitimacy of polished diamonds."

Please spread the word about this. We hope that public pressure will help persuade DeBeers to further bolster distancing from the its, and the industry's, blood diamond past, and help, not hinder, the age of source transparency.
