Just a couple precautions for upcoming weather
Before the storm
Bring in or secure outdoor items (patio furniture, grills, umbrellas, décor) to prevent damage and flying debris.
Park vehicles in a garage or under cover if possible, and away from trees.
Charge phones and battery packs; keep flashlights ready (avoid candles).
Identify the safest spot in the home (lowest level, interior room, away from windows) and review a family plan.
Create a quick “just in case” record
Take a short video walking through the home (and the exterior) and snap photos of valuables—this can be very helpful for the claims process if there’s a loss.
Save receipts or note major items/serial numbers when possible.
If damage occurs
Put safety first and avoid downed power lines and unstable structures.
Contact the agency directly to discuss next steps.
When it’s safe, document damage with photos/video and prevent further damage if you can (example: tarp a roof).
