Interest rates and monetary policy have the biggest effect on real estate values, above all else. The federal government issued new money in 2020 and 2021 and with interest rates as high as they currently are in 2023, the Federal Reserve is ensuring that a majority of that newly issued money, slowly but surely ends back up in the hands of banks. Higher interest rates paired with tightening of credit markets only accelerates this result. The idea of dismantling the Fed and restoring its singular responsibility to protect the value of the US Dollar instead of playing some type of financial god is the best idea our company has heard since inception. Ramaswamy. The cost of money to developers, small business owners, and job creators shouldn’t be punitively high.

Besides forecasting another hike by year’s end, Fed officials now envision keeping rates high deep into 2024. They expect to cut interest rates just twice next year, fewer than the four rate cuts they had predicted in June.
