One of the reasons I talk so openly about living with cystic fibrosis is because I know how isolating it can feel when people only see the version of you that shows up.

They don't see the appointments on your calendar.

They don't see the treatments you fit into your day.

They don't see the calls, paperwork, medications, insurance approvals, setbacks, or all the small decisions that go into taking care of yourself.

And honestly, they're not supposed to.

But I do think it's important that people living with chronic illnesses know they're not the only ones carrying those things behind the scenes.

I've spent my entire life learning how to navigate healthcare, advocate for myself, and understand the coverage I need to stay healthy.

If sharing those experiences helps even one person feel less alone, ask better questions, or find coverage that truly supports their needs, then it's a conversation worth having.

You're carrying more than most people realize.

And if you're doing your best to show up anyway, that's something to be proud of.

Have you ever stopped to think about why insurance covers preventative care at 100%?

It's because some of the most important benefits in your plan aren't there for when something goes wrong.

They're there to help catch things before they do.

Your yearly physicals, screenings, vaccines, mammograms, colonoscopies, and other preventative services exist for a reason. They're designed to monitor your health, identify problems early, and help you take action before a small issue becomes a much bigger one.

If you're paying for these benefits, use them.

Preventative care isn't an extra.

It's one of the most valuable parts of your coverage.

Ending Cystic Fibrosis Awareness Month by sharing a few things people may not realize about living with cystic fibrosis 😂

Sometimes people only hear the clinical definition of chronic illnesses and never really get to hear what daily life, humor, experiences, or even childhood memories around it can actually look like.

So yes… we sweat salt, prune insanely fast in water, and somehow become mini medical professionals before adulthood.

But honestly, I think one of the biggest things chronic illness teaches you is how to find humor and personality inside things that could otherwise feel really heavy all the time.

Also… if you watched Titanic as a kid and immediately tried the spit scene after, just know I did too 💀

A lot of people view dental and vision coverage as “extra” insurance until they actually need to use it.

Vision coverage is great for yearly eye exams, glasses, and contacts, but dental insurance is one of those things that can quietly save you from very expensive problems later if you stay proactive with preventative care.

One thing I always try to explain to clients is that oral health affects so much more than just your teeth. Your gums, oral hygiene, inflammation, and untreated issues can impact your overall health more than most people realize.

And when it comes to dental work, costs can vary drastically between providers, which makes having some level of coverage incredibly helpful when unexpected things come up.

Even just staying consistent with your cleanings, X-rays, and preventative visits can make a huge difference long term.

Today is a reminder that Memorial Day is so much more than just a long weekend.

It’s a day to remember and honor the men and women who gave their lives in service to this country, and to reflect on the sacrifices made by so many families along the way.

I hope everyone takes at least a moment today to slow down, appreciate the people around them, and remember the true meaning behind this holiday.

Part 3 of sharing my cystic fibrosis diagnosis story.

Looking back now, this story honestly makes me laugh… but at the time, I thought my life was completely over. 😭

Growing up with cystic fibrosis meant treatments, routines, medications, and a level of discipline that most kids around me never really had to think about. And my dad did not play when it came to making sure I took care of myself properly.

At the time, I thought he was ruining my life by making me leave that sleepover early. But now that I’m older, I understand what he was really trying to teach me: your health has to come before temporary moments.

And honestly… he was right.

I feel like everyone who grew up with strict parents has at least one story they still remember like this 😂

Part 2 of sharing my cystic fibrosis diagnosis story.

One thing I don’t think people always realize about growing up with a chronic illness is how much it impacts your entire family, not just the person diagnosed.

Between breathing treatments, medications, doctor appointments, and trying to keep us healthy, my parents worked really hard to still give us a normal childhood and make sure we never felt isolated from other kids our age.

Looking back now, I have so much appreciation for the way they created an environment where our health was always prioritized, but our lives were never defined only by cystic fibrosis.

I know a lot of families navigating chronic illness carry that same balance every single day.

For those of you living with a chronic illness, what was a difficult part of growing up around people your age who did not understand what you were dealing with?

Part 1 of sharing my cystic fibrosis diagnosis story.

My mom knew something wasn’t right long before there were answers. Test after test, specialist after specialist, we still didn’t know why I was struggling to breathe or why I kept getting so sick as a baby.

Looking back now, I get emotional realizing how much uncertainty my family lived in during those first months of my life just trying to find an answer.

One thing about chronic illness is that sometimes the journey starts long before the diagnosis itself. And for so many families, the hardest part in the beginning is not knowing what’s wrong while watching someone you love struggle.

More of my story in part 2 on Wednesday.

The other day I was asked, “What’s something people don’t see behind the scenes of chronic illness?”

And honestly… probably how much energy goes into trying to appear okay while still managing everything happening internally.

Most people only see the moments I share publicly. They don’t always see the appointments, the exhaustion, the mental weight, or the constant balancing act happening in the background while still trying to live a normal life.

I think that’s why support, understanding, and compassion matter so much more than people realize.

What’s something you would like to learn more about living with a chronic illness?
