What happened in Brazil this week made me stop and think about how we value different kinds of work—and how easily we overlook the people whose work makes our everyday lives possible.

But this conversation goes even deeper.

Because not all important work comes with a paycheck.

Friday Thoughts: Work — The Dignity of Work:

This Labor Day weekend, I’ve been thinking about work. We often celebrate the people with impressive titles and careers, but what about the people whose work we barely notice—until they stop showing up? Garbage collectors, janitors, truck drivers, construction workers, caregivers, parents… so much of what makes our lives and communities function depends on people simply showing up and doing their part. Honest work has dignity. And not all important work comes with a paycheck. ❤️ So this Labor Day, let’s remember to appreciate the work that makes our lives better—and ask ourselves: Are we doing our work with pride? With integrity? And are we treating people with respect, regardless of what they do? Maybe the question isn’t, “What kind of job do you have?” Maybe it’s, “What kind of person are you while you’re doing it?” Happy Labor Day! 🇺🇸 God bless.
