I want to share something I have seen in nearly every high-achieving client I have worked with in the last decade.
They plan the exit beautifully.
The succession is documented. The financial architecture is solid. The date is set. The goodbye party is lovely.
And then, somewhere between month two and month six, something unexpected happens.
The structure they relied on for 30 years is gone. And nothing has been built to replace it yet.
This is not a financial problem. The money is there. But money does not organize your Tuesday. Money does not call you when there is a problem to solve. Money does not tell you who you are when no one is using your title anymore.
I have watched brilliant, accomplished people spend the first year of retirement feeling more lost than they ever expected. Not because they did anything wrong. Because they planned the departure and forgot to plan the destination.
